The American Hospital Association and its Physician Leadership Forum, along with AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks), have developed a patient safety toolkit to guide hospitals and health systems in implementing a blood management program.
The toolkit offers resources for senior management, clinicians and patients.
Senior leaders can take advantage of a readiness assessment tool, identifying recommendations and next steps to implement a blood management program program. The toolkit offers clinicians educational resources on patient blood management, such as evidence-based transfusion practices, an upcoming webinar discussing improving patient blood management care and an iPhone app for on-the-go resources. Additionally, the toolkit offers patients a handout answering common questions about blood transfusions and patient blood management.
