The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers assessment sheets to help clinicians identify the appropriateness of administering antibiotics.
With the rising concern over antibiotic resistance and overuse of antibiotics, determining optimal antibiotic use is becoming paramount. The assessment worksheets are designed to help facilities identify opportunities to improve antibiotic use, asking retrospective questions about clinical steps taken when antibiotics were prescribed to a patient.
The CDC offers four assessments: appropriateness of antibiotics for urinary tract infections, community-acquired pneumonia and resistant gram-positive infections, as well as a general assessment of inpatient antibiotics.
Access the assessments here to download for use in your facility.
