Focusing on and improving these six areas can create an "optimal clinical learning environment," which in turn will translate to better patient care quality, according to the guide.

The six focus areas are as follows: patient safety, healthcare quality, care transitions, supervision, duty hours/fatigue management and mitigation, and professionalism.
