The Patient Safety Movement is asking Congress to scrap efforts to repeal the ACA unless replacement legislation designed to protect patients in a comparable manner is on the table.
While the ACA has provided coverage for an additional 20 million Americans, its payment rules also incentivize hospitals and physicians to minimize the occurrence of potentially fatal medical errors, the advocacy group argues.
"There are many programs created by the ACA, like those that are averting hospital-acquired conditions, that are saving lives," said Patient Safety Movement Founder Joe Kiani. "Repealing the ACA without a thoughtful process in place to make hospitals safer is bad public policy and irresponsible."
