A survey conducted by the American Professionals in Infection Control found only 6 percent of hospitals in the United States are "well prepared" to handle a patient with the Ebola virus.
The APIC survey gathered the responses of more than 1,000 APIC members working in acute care hospitals.
While 6 percent indicated their facilities were well prepared, just 5 percent indicated they were not prepared. The majority of respondents (40 percent) said they were somewhat prepared.
Additionally, 81 percent of respondents said they had initiated Ebola training for their staff; 18 percent said they had not initiated such training.
When asked to identify which topic areas facilities require additional information to improve their ability to receive Ebola patients, waste management and waste removal were the most highly cited, followed by personal protective equipment protocols.
