A study, published in Pediatric Allergy & Immunology, examined the association between obesity and asthma in a pediatric population.
For the study, researchers focused on 38,679 patients, of which 3,177 were underweight, 28,904 were normal weight, 3,334 were overweight and 3,264 were obese.
The study shows obese children were more likely to be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge compared to the normal-weight group. Additionally, they were more likely to have longer hospital stays.
Researchers did not find any significant difference between the four groups regarding the need for intensive care and total hospitalization costs.
