Nyack Hospital patient wins $2.3M in lawsuit alleging infection mistreatment

A Rockland County jury awarded $2.3 million to a former Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital patient, who claimed the head of orthopedic surgery left a serious infection untreated, according to a report by The Journal News.

The medical malpractice lawsuit was filed in 2011. The jury found the surgeon liable for the botched treatment of the patient. The patient claimed in court papers he was sent home despite test results showing he suffered a serious bacterial infection. Two days after returning home, the patient returned to the hospital where damage was discovered in his hip and he eventually underwent a hip replacement, according to the report.
