Nurse saves boy's life at swimming pool

A nurse administered two rounds of CPR June 30 to save a boy's life when he nearly drowned at the Marietta Aquatic Center in Ohio, according to The Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

Alethea Bateman, an acute care nurse at West Virginia University Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, had just arrived to swim at the aquatic center when her daughter said, "Mom, that kid is blue." Ms. Bateman saw a boy face-up in shallow water and immediately took action, checking the boy's pulse and administering CPR until he began coughing.

The boy is being kept at a hospital under observation, according to Bill Dauber, assistant safety and service director of Marietta, Ohio. The Marietta Police Department has also assigned a detective to investigate the incident, Dauber said, though no criminal activity is suspected.
