On Wednesday, the National Association of School Nurses introduced the Naloxone in Schools Toolkit as a resource for school nurses in the event of a possible overdose in a school setting.
The toolkit includes training materials for storing and administering naloxone — the opioid overdose antidote. The toolkit also contains educational resources for nurses and community members regarding overdose protocols, best practices and information on available naloxone formulations.
"The opioid epidemic is a national crisis that has crept into our schools," said Beth Mattey, RN, president of the NASN. "This toolkit can help school nurses, leaders and community members address the possibility of an opioid drug overdose and learn what options are available to help prepare before it's too late."
