NQF rolls out playbook for antibiotic stewardship in post-acute, long-term care settings

The National Quality Forum on July 25 launched the next version of its antibiotic stewardship playbook, which is tailored for post-acute and long-term care providers, according to a press release.

CMS' updated conditions of participation for long-term care facilities require these healthcare providers to develop infection prevention and control programs with a dedicated team of staff members.

The new version of the antibiotic stewardship playbook features implementation strategies, sampling tools and other resources to help long-term care facilities meet this CMS regulation, which will take effect at the end of 2018.

"This new playbook is an important tool that builds on the previous work NQF has done on antibiotic stewardship. It is a practical guide that provides vital information to frontline staff that will help make care safer for all patients," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
