NPSF Awards $100k Grant for Research on Patient Falls, Facility Design

The National Patient Safety Foundation announced it has awarded a $100,000 grant for a research project on elements of hospital facility design that contribute to patient falls.

The research will be led by Debajyoti Pati, PhD, Rockwell Professor in the department of design at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, who will partner with healthcare design firm HKS. The project aims to identify physical aspects of inpatient hospital rooms, such as layout and fixtures, which may increase the risk of falls as patients try to walk from the bed to the bathroom. The goal is to develop recommendations for design firms to help reduce the risk of falls and increase patient safety.
