Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday said while there have been no active Zika transmission zones identified in Florida so far this year, mosquito control efforts in the state remain diligent.
Mr. Scott made the comments during the Florida Department of Health's Zika Preparedness Planning Meeting in Miami.
"While Florida does not have any identified areas with active Zika transmission, DOH, mosquito control districts and community partners across the state have been tirelessly working together to help combat the spread of this disease and keep our state safe," said Mr. Scott. "We will continue to remain in contact with our federal and state partners and we remain fully committed to doing everything we can to protect our families and visitors."
In 2016, Florida experienced 1,456 cases of Zika virus, 285 of which were acquired from local mosquitoes, according to the state health department.
