As of Sept. 19., the CDC has confirmed 1,241 measles cases in 31 states this year.
Two new measles cases were reported for the week of Sept. 13-19. However, the national case count remained the same from a week prior because the CDC determined two previously reported cases were not measles infections.
The most recent measles outbreak — an epidemic in Rockland County, N.Y., affecting more than 300 people — ended Sept. 24, according to USA Today affiliate The Journal News. Outbreaks are tied to travelers from other countries where large measles outbreaks are occurring, such as Israel, Ukraine and the Philippines.
At present, 131 measles patients have required hospitalization this year and 65 had complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
