The National, Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health is offering pharmacists a free toolkit to aid in cautioning patients regarding their risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The toolkit contains fact sheets for patients with COPD or individuals at risk for developing the condition, which is the third leading cause of death in the United States. The kit also comes with resources to aid pharmacists in providing behavioral and educational counseling to patients regarding COPD.

"They can play a role in medication management — encouraging adherence, and importantly, medication reconciliation — because there are many COPD patients that suffer from other diseases, like heart disease and diabetes."
