NIH adds 5 clinical sites to Undiagnosed Diseases Network

The National Institutes of Health awarded grants to academic medical centers to improve the diagnosis of rare and undiagnosed conditions and added five clinical sites to its Undiagnosed Diseases Network.

The awards are part of the second phase of the NIH's network. Investments planned for the network over the next four years will be about $100 million, pending available funding.

The grants expand the network from seven to 12 clinical sites and increases patient access to clinical sites.

The network has diagnosed more than 200 cases that had been unknown conditions since opening to applications in 2015.

The five new clinical sites are:

  • Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
  • University of Miami School of Medicine
  • University of Utah (Salt Lake City)
  • University of Washington School of Medicine (Seattle) and Seattle Children's Hospital
  • Washington University in St. Louis
