New Hospital Medicine Index Assesses Hospitalist Programs

Cogent HMG announced the launch of a new tool to identify the strengths and weaknesses of hospitalist programs.

The Greeno-Hawley Hospital Medicine Index includes questions in five categories: alignment, performance management, infrastructure, operational processes and leadership and people. Answers to these questions yield a quantitative score and an interpretation of the program's current state. The index also establishes the Core Capabilities for a hospital medicine program, which builds on the Society of Hospital Medicine's Core Competencies for individual hospitalist physicians.

The tool is based on best practices of hospital medicine programs reviewed by Ron Greeno, MD, MHM, and Beth Hawley, hospitalist medicine experts.

Beginning in May, Cogent HMG will provide hospitals free access to the index on http://www.soundphysicians.com/hospital-services/comprehensive-hospitalist-services to advance the hospitalist specialty, according to the release.
