A new piece of legislation introduced Wednesday to the Senate proposes to reduce Medicare spending by paying senior citizens for good health, according to a report byThe Hill.
Seniors would create plans for maintaining and bettering their health under the program, Medicare Better Health Rewards, with help from their physicians. Compensation to seniors would be based on maintenance and improvement of blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, diabetes indicator, and current vaccinations and screenings. Evaluations for Medicare Better Health Rewards would occur at each senior's yearly medical checkup.
Seniors could earn up to $400 dollars by the third year of the program, which would be funded by savings on care costs from healthier seniors.
