Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a package of five bills that will require the state to publish facility-by-facility reports of sentinel events and other information for consumers, greatly increasing transparency in healthcare quality, according to a Las Vegas Sun report.
The five bills signed by the governor are:
• Senate Bill 209 requires the state Health Division to publish annual reports comparing sentinel events in hospitals in Clark and Washoe counties.
• Senate Bill 264 requires the reporting of readmission rates of patients if the readmission was potentially preventable and related to the initial admission.
• Senate Bill 338 requires each medical facility and nursing home that provides care to 25 or more patients to report sentinel events to a CDC program.
• Senate Bill 229 requires physicians to inform patients about infections acquired in hospitals.
• Senate Bill 340 requires hospitals and ASCs to report the names of physicians performing surgical procedures along with information about those procedures.
