Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, Calif., has notified 897 endoscopy patients that the endoscopes may not have been cleaned sufficiently, according to a report by The Herald.
During a routine safety audit, the hospital found that documentation of endoscope disinfection was inadequate on some days in an 18-month period, according to the report. While the risk of infection is low, the hospital is offering patients free testing for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
The hospital has retrained staff, according to the report.
