An 11-state cyclospora infection outbreak, which sickened 241 people, has ended, the CDC announced.
The outbreak was linked to fresh basil from Siga Logistics de RL de CV, a company based in Morelos, Mexico. The company recalled its basil products July 24.
The outbreak resulted in six hospitalizations, but no deaths. The illnesses began on dates ranging from June 10 to July 26. By mid-August, 205 people had been infected. Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Wisconsin reported infections.
Cyclospora, a parasite, causes an intestinal illness called cyclosporiasis. Symptoms include diarrhea and stomach cramps.
