The Department of Pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York has established a new academic research facility to develop methods to better classify diseases and create precise treatment guides tailored to the health needs of the individual.
The new Center for Computational and Systems Pathology will deploy advanced computer science and mathematical techniques alongside cutting-edge microscope technology and artificial intelligence to create new diagnostic, predictive and prognostic tests to bolster ongoing precision medicine initiatives conducted by Mount Sinai researchers.
"Our goal is to provide a precise mathematical approach to classifying and treating disease, which will assist our clinicians with information for effective patient care and health management," said Carlos Cordon-Cardo, MD, PhD, who will oversee the new center, which is located at Mount Sinai St. Luke's in New York. "By refining diagnoses, we can save patients from unnecessary treatments."
