Mission Hospital resumes elective surgeries after infection issue

Ten days after Mission Hospital in Orange County, Calif., suspended elective surgeries at its two campuses due to a cluster of infections, the hospitals have resumed such procedures, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

The Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach campuses postponed all elective surgeries after four patients developed the same surgical site infection when undergoing orthopedic procedures in the same operating room.

According to a posting on the hospital website, Mission Hospital underwent an external review to determine the cause of infections and look for improvement opportunities, according to the Los Angeles Times report.

"We will be reinspected and reaudited to verify what we've done, how it meets the standards," said Chris Bailey, Mission Viejo's director of infection prevention, in the report.
