Minnesota respiratory therapists sell hygienic hijabs to hospitals

To provide Muslim women personal protective equipment, two respiratory therapists launched a company that sells disposable hygienic hijabs to hospitals and healthcare workers across the U.S., CBS News reported Nov. 4.

The company owners, Firaoli Adam and Yasmin Samatar, told the outlet they struggled with their hijabs while working on travel assignments at several hospitals. To adhere to infection control practices, they used to tuck them in and brought multiple hijabs to change throughout the work day.

"They had a beard cover. We looked at each other like, 'They have a beard cover even?! Why not a hijab cover? Something has to be out there,'" Ms. Adam said.

In 2022, the two Minnesota residents launched Mawadda to sell hygienic hijabs, and next year, they plan to launch a modest scrub line featuring skirts and dresses.
