The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Dec. 5 reported the state's first case of acute flaccid myelitis in 2018.
The health department did not disclose personal details about the infected child, but said the case occurred in Wayne County, Mich.
As of Dec. 3, the CDC confirmed 134 AFM cases across 33 states, marking an 18-case increase from the week prior. An additional 165 cases are still under investigation, seven of which are in Michigan.
