Michigan State Rep. Ben Glardon introduced legislation to establish training standards to operate radiation machines, according to a report from Michigan House Republicans.
Currently in the state, no operators of radiation machines except mammography machine operators have to meet training or education standards. House Bill 4869 would require the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to establish rules to set minimum training and performance standards for all radiation machine operators and would create a radiation machine advisory committee.
The bill, which has been referred to the House Health Policy Committee for consideration, aims to improve patient safety and the quality of imaging.
Only 10 other states lack minimum education and certification standards for radiation machine operators, according to the report.
