Arkansas and Michigan reported their first pediatric flu-related deaths of the 2018-19 season.
The Arkansas Department of Health reported the death of a child under age 4 on Dec. 21, according to THV11. Health officials did not disclose whether the child received a flu shot.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also reported a pediatric flu death Dec. 21. The child, infected with influenza A, had not received a flu shot this season, reports The Detroit News. Health officials did not release the child's age or gender due to privacy concerns.
The deaths mark the sixth and seventh pediatric flu deaths nationwide for the 2018-19 season. Last flu season, the CDC received 185 reports of pediatric flu deaths in the U.S.
