Methodist Dallas Medical Center will lose its Medicare status if it does not implement a corrective plan to address safety violations, according to a Dallas Business Journal report.
Methodist Dallas Medical Center is the second hospital in the Dallas area that recently received such a notice from CMS. The Texas Department of State Health Services conducted an inspection of Methodist in August and reported its findings to CMS, prompting the warning to fix the citations or risk losing its Medicare status.
According to a hospital statement, a majority of issues discovered by TDSHS related to the increased volume and space limitations in Methodist Dallas' emergency department. Parkland Memorial Hospital was also recently dinged for patient safety violations after TDSHS surveyed the hospital. It recently submitted a corrective action plan, which CMS accepted. Per federal protocol, TDSHS will re-survey Parkland.
Methodist Dallas Medical Center must submit its action plan by Sept. 6 or risk revocation of its Medicare status.
A previous version of this article said that Methodist Dallas Medical Center was cited for improper ER staffing, when, in fact, it was not. We regret this error.
