Preliminary data show most patients treated for Clostridium difficile are not actually infected, according to a MedPage Today report.
A study conducted at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City showed only 292 of 1,971 patients treated for C. diff over 22 months had positive lab tests confirming the infection.
Researchers suggest developing a quality improvement project that addresses appropriate usage of diagnostic tests, medications and dosages for C. diff infections.
