Louisiana began implementing the Nurse Licensure Compact July 1, joining 30 other states that have implemented the NLC, according to a July 23 newswire.
The NLC allows registered nurses and licensed practical/vocational nurses to practice in person or via telehealth with one multistate license in all participating NLC states. Other states that recently implemented the NLC include Kansas and Alabama.
The multistate license could especially benefit nurses who move frequently between states, such as military spouses, nurse executives, travel nurses and nurses living on borders. The NLC also allows nurses from multiple states to respond in the event of an emergency.
