Longtime UPMC physician to lead new research center on women's health

Halina Zyczynski, MD, a longtime physician and researcher at Pittsburgh-based UPMC, will serve as medical director of a new research institute dedicated to women's health, reports GoErie.

Dr. Zyczynski is a urogynecologist who's worked at UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh for about three decades. She currently serves as director of the hospital's division of urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery.

Dr. Zyczynski will also oversee UPMC's new Magee-Womens Research Institute-Erie (Pa.), an expansion of the hospital's main research center in Pittsburgh.

The research facility will focus on reproductive development, newborn development and pregnancy, among other women's health issues.

The $26 million facility is currently under construction and slated for completion this summer.
