Long-Term Care Associations Launch Multi-Year Initiative to Improve Quality

The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living have announced a multi-year initiative to meet new quality goals, including reducing hospital readmission rates and improving staff retention.

The four goals are designed to improve quality of care in skilled nursing centers and assisted living communities over the next three years:

1.    Reduce the number of hospital readmissions within 30 days by 15 percent.

2.    Reduce turnover among nursing staff by 15 percent.

3.    Reduce the off-label use of antipsychotics by 15 percent.

4.    Increase the number of patients who would recommend his or her facility to 90 percent.

AHCA/NCAL has created a volunteer-led quality cabinet to coordinate and monitor the progress of the quality initiative. More information about the initiative is available online.
