As the 2018-19 flu season begins, Kansas health officials have reported two flu deaths as of Oct. 15, according to The Wichita Eagle.
The first of several confirmed cases in the Sedgwick County, Kan., area was reported in the last few weeks, but there has not been a large increase in cases, said a spokesperson for Sedgwick County's Division of Health.
During the 2017-18 flu season, Kansas health officials reported 193 deaths that were directly attributed to the flu. Influenza and pneumonia directly caused or contributed to about 1,700 deaths statewide — the most Kansas has seen in three years.
The CDC recommends all persons 6 months and older receive a seasonal flu vaccine by the end of October.
