The Kansas Hospital Association has reported hospitals have significantly reduced central line-associated bloodstream infections after one year of participation in the Kansas On the CUSP: Stop BSI project.
Through the CUSP program, hospitals implement a safety checklist, which includes protocols for hand hygiene, maximum barrier precautions, line insertion removal and more. The program also relied on a team-based approach. Each hospital unit forms a CUSP team consisting of a nurse, physician and executive champion.
The CUSP program has helped Kansas hospitals reduce the incidence of central line infections by 39 percent in one year.
