Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital — the flagship hospital of IU Health — recently earned the hospital's first recertification from the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center after undergoing a rigorous review process, according to Wednesday news release.
Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers must display a dedication to high-performance and its facilities must be equipped with proper technology and properly trained staff to provide around-the-clock care to the most complex stroke cases. As such a facility, the stroke center at Methodist Hospital is staffed with neurosurgeons 24 hours a day, every day, and has achieved dramatic reductions in door-to-treatment time for patients admitted with symptoms of stroke.
Only 2 percent of the nation's hospitals have achieved certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. IU Health Methodist Hospital was first certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2014 and is the only such center in the state of Indiana.
