How can quality reporting be improved? 5 suggestions from physicians

A survey recently published in Health Affairs asked physician practices for details on their quality reporting activities, and responding practices were not too shy to offer feedback or suggestions for improvement of the system.

Of the 395 physician practices that responded, 228 practices provided 308 comments in the free-text section of the survey. Below are five main themes that emerged from those comments:

1. The burden of measurement requirements on small physician practices

2. Recommendations to make measurements uniform across entities

3. The need for specialty-specific quality metrics

4. The need for metrics that better represent quality care

5. The need for the ability to easily extract accurate data from EHRs
