Premier health alliance announced that hospitals participating in its nationwide quality improvement initiative have avoided 92,000 deaths and saved $9.1 billion in costs since 2008.
The initiative, called QUEST, includes 333 hospitals that set high standards, benchmark performance and share best practices. These efforts have resulted in a 10 percent lower mortality rate at hospitals in Quest than national averages, according to the news release. Here are some other quality and cost improvements Quest members achieved since 2008:
• Increased rate of providing all recommended evidence-based care measures by 14 percent for a total of 96 percent.
• Reduced average cost per discharge by $1,110; Quest hospitals' costs are 14 percent lower than the national average, according to the news release.
• Increased patient experience scores by 3 percent; Quest hospitals' patient experience scores are 1 percent higher than non-Quest hospitals.
• Reduced readmission rates by 4 percent.
Premier will launch the next generation of Quest in January 2014.
