Hospital Study Shows Poor Hand-Hygiene Compliance, Particularly Before Procedures

Staff at an unnamed cancer hospital showed poor compliance with hand hygiene standards, particularly before performing procedures, according to new study published in Applied Nursing Research.

Compliance was 41.7 percent before procedures and 72.1 percent after procedures but was higher in high-risk procedures.

Researchers observed 612 procedures involving 47 healthcare providers and over a 16-week period in inpatient and outpatient units during day, evening and night shifts.
