Hospital Association of Southern California to host patient safety workshops

The Hospital Association of Southern California is helping hospitals enhance their culture of patient safety by facilitating Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety, or TeamSTEPPS, workshops throughout the region.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Defense created TeamSTEPPS — a suite of tools and communication techniques hospitals and healthcare providers can use to help their staff prevent medical errors. The evidence-based TeamSTEPPS practices can be applied to a variety of improvement efforts, from hand hygiene to sepsis management, because it is based on culture change across the organization.

"Optimizing team performance across the healthcare delivery system will improve every hospital's patient safety culture and will prevent medical errors — guaranteed!" said Julia Slininger, vice president of quality and patient safety at the Hospital Association of Southern California.

TeamSTEPPS workshop opportunities for hospitals in Southern California are scheduled in 2016 and 2017. Those interested in learning more can contact Ms. Slininger at jslininger@hasc.org.
