HHS has recognized nine public and private practices and health systems for excellence in hypertension control through the agency's Million Hearts initiative, designed to identify leading ideas, methods and clinicians for heart health.
Hypertension, a condition affecting more than 30 percent of Americans, contributes to heart attack and stroke. Only half of those who suffer from hypertension have it under control.

The providers recognized by HHS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention helped patients achieve hypertension control through National Quality Forum-endorsed measures, according to a news release. The winners care for 8.3 million adult patients combined. They include:
- Broadway Internal Medicine PC (Queens, N.Y.)
- Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (N.H.)
- Jen Brull, MD (Plainville, Kan.)
- Nilesh V. Patel, MD (Audubon, Pa.)
- Pawhuska (Okla.) Indian Health Center (U.S. Indian Health Service)
- Kaiser Permanente Northern California
- River Falls (Wis.) Medical Clinic
- ThedaCare (Appleton, Wis.)
- Veterans Health Administration (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
