HHS has awarded more than $840 million to improve emergency preparedness through two federal preparedness programs — the Hospital Preparedness Program and the Public Health Emergency Preparedness program.
These programs help fund the nation's healthcare and public health systems at the state and local levels. They also provide resources needed to ensure that local communities can respond effectively to infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters or chemical, biological and radiological nuclear events.
This marks the third year that the funds are being awarded jointly to both programs, encouraging further cooperation between the country's healthcare and public health systems.
The fiscal year 2014 funding awards include a total of $228.5 million for the Hospital Preparedness Program and $611.75 million for the Public Health Emergency Preparedness program.
