Healthcare Leaders Call for Collaboration, Innovation to Address Urban Health Needs

Private-public and cross-industry collaboration, as well as incentives to encourage prevention and wellness, will be exceedingly important for improving quality of care and reducing costs for healthcare in urban areas, according to healthcare leaders convened at the FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards Healthcare Forum.

The FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards Healthcare Forum is part of the FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards, a global program to recognize individuals whose solutions are fueling growth and economic progress. The forum highlighted current trends and innovative approaches to tackling urban challenges in healthcare. The conference speakers noted that while it is important to slow the rate of healthcare spending, innovation should be viewed as a cost and quality solution.

"Now more than ever we need a forum for innovation, which can help raise awareness and support for clinicians and systems who are working in urban settings, often with misaligned incentives and many obstacles, yet collaborating to make a difference," said Kavita Patel, MD, a fellow at the Brookings Institute and managing director for clinical transformation and delivery at the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform.
