Health officials warn of possible measles exposure at Niagara Falls

The New York State Department of Health is warning residents of a potential measles exposure that occurred between May 11-12 in several locations in the Niagara Falls area.

The exposure cites were determined after a tourist from India visiting the area tested positive for the measles. The cites include the Niagara Falls State Park, a Niagara Falls restaurant, a Brockport hotel and an interstate rest stop.

"To prevent the spread of illness, the NYSDOH is advising individuals who may have been exposed and who have symptoms consistent with measles to contact their healthcare provider or a local emergency department before going for care," said the health department in a release.

The measles is a highly communicable virus characterized by fever, runny nose, cough and a rash that spreads all over the body. The illness can be fatal.
