Government leaders and health officials will gather at the 2nd International Zika Virus Conference and Workshop March 29-30 to discuss the latest prevention and treatment efforts currently in development to contain the spread of the mosquito-borne virus.
The conference will be held at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport Hotel in Herndon, Va. A workshop will follow the conference on March 31. During the workshop, infection control experts will educate attendees on how to plan for and respond to the possible spread of Zika in their respective communities.

The Zika virus is primarily spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and poses a significant risk to pregnant women as it has been linked to a number of birth defects, most notably microcephaly. Microcephaly is a neurologically debilitating condition in which babies are with abnormally small heads.
