In one week, 1,121 people were hospitalized with the flu, bringing the total number of flu hospitalizations this season to 6,804 through Feb. 4, according to the CDC's most recent FluView report.
The rate of hospitalization for the flu is currently much higher than it was at this point last season — 24.3 per 100,000 people are hospitalized with flu symptoms as opposed to 3.9 per 100,000 people in the 2015-16 season. However, the 2014-15 season had a much higher rate of flu hospitalizations at this point: 50.8 per 100,000.
