The Willough at Naples (Fla.), a psychiatric and addiction treatment hospital, submitted a plan to state officials to correct five infractions — including patient safety violations — revealed during a June surprise inspection, the Naples Daily News reports.
The 87-bed hospital responded to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration in July. The facility's risk manager did not have measures in place to prevent patient safety risks such as falls, and there was no system to inform patients of potential risks, the agency inspector found.
The inspection also found the risk manager was not reviewing safety risks with patients and lacked a plan of action. The two other citations from the inspection involved billing.
The hospital had seven complaints from 2010-15 that resulted in fines ranging from $750 to $6,500.
The psychiatric hospital was not fined for citations from the surprise inspection, according to the state agency's website.
The hospital's risk manager was re-educated on risk prevention steps, including monitoring patients, and the hospital will be required to review staff documentation relating to patients' health status and conduct an investigation when adverse events occur, according to the corrective plan.
