Florida Hospital Carrollwood to eliminate manual patient lifting

To reduce employee and patient injury, Florida Hospital Carrollwood in Tampa plans to eliminate manual patient lifting by providing the hospital's entire clinical staff with access to five different types of mechanical lifting equipment.

The new equipment is being provided by The Diligent Mobility Platform. Diligent reports that 70 percent of all nursing injuries can be attributed to back complications resultant of patient lifting.

"The decision to eliminate manual patient lifting is an example of Florida Hospital Carrollwood's commitment to stay on the front edge of both patient and employee safety," said Robin McGuinness, RN, CNO and vice president of patient care services. "By providing these tools we hope to make the daily process of moving patients safer, easier and more comfortable for everyone involved."
