Disinfection robot joins PMHD team

BRAWLEY, Calif.,- A germ killing robot may sound futuristic but Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley has already established one at their medical center.

TRU-D Smart UVC is the most advanced disinfection robot. It can kill up to 99.9% of germs and pathogens such as Influenza, Norovirus, Ebola and other spores and bacteria. This robot can disinfect an entire room within minutes depending on its size, using UVC light.

"We want to make sure we provide the highest quality of care, and patient satisfaction while at the same time providing a safe environment for our employees," said Larry Lewis CEO of Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District.

PMHD acquired the robot in an effort to combat the recent spread of flu and other viruses. A scheduled route throughout the hospital rooms has already been implemented. The robot disinfects different rooms once a patient is out. PMHD officials say this robot is harmless and Eco-friendly.

Lewis says the robot did cost a lot of money but they say they see it as a beneficiary investment. "It's going to reduce a lot of complications that come from hospital inquired infections and that's the best case for our patients in any way, so it's worth the investment," said Lewis.
