Denver VA Medical Center suspends surgeries following sterilization issues

The Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center has temporarily suspended surgeries after discovering issues with sterilized equipment, according to a Denver 7NEWS report.

The hospital reportedly found "trace mineral deposits" on certain surgical instruments and is "in the process of resurfacing these instruments," according to the report.

A Denver VAMC spokesperson told 7NEWS they are "unable to predict when normal operations will resume."

The hospital has started using disposable equipment and is also looking into reprocessing the surgical instruments and other instrument cleaning options.
