Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass., will pay a $6,000 penalty after the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection found the hospital violated hazardous waste regulations.
In September 2012, DEP officials found Cooley Dickinson gave hazardous pharmaceutical waste to a transporter not licensed by the state and did not properly determine the hazards in that waste. DEP's inspection also found hazardous waste labeling violations.
Originally, the DEP assessed an $8,000 penalty, but the two sides agreed to the $6,000 figure as long as Cooley Dickinson stays compliant going forward.
