Connecticut has reported its first flu death of the 2018-19 season, state Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Oct. 22, according to the Hartford Courant.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health reported the death Oct. 19, Mr. Blumenthal said. The patient was over the age of 65.
Twenty-two people in Connecticut have been hospitalized so far this flu season.
Due to the early flu death, Mr. Blumenthal said he is joining medical professionals in encouraging residents to get their flu shots.
Mr. Blumenthal said he is working on legislation to provide $1 billion for universal flu vaccine development over the next five years.
